I have learned few things while in the process of covering a k-pop m/v. I have learned the importance of a leader, teamwork and cooperation of each member. Many popular songs are performed by groups in Korea, idols with their own group and those solo singers with their band crew or dance crew. I realized more effort and teamwork in their outcomes than that I knew of.
We definitely had a leader who learned and taught the dance to rest of the group. She led the discussions how to dress up, locate, and schedule for practices. I never understood the necessary of a leader in each idol group, but if it were not them, the groups might not been presented as they are now to the fans. There are few clips where we can see idol leaders’ endeavour to get their group together and practice to perfection.
In addition, teamwork and cooperation of each member are equally important. If members were not responsive and did not put effort in, the results would have not come out regardless of a good leader. Leader would start off and rest of us tried to figure out the best ways within. Also, encouraging each other in the process when struggling with dances, locations and clothing helps a lot. Idol group members with different ethnicity, background and physical capacity cannot have same level of dance or singing. There must be outstanding ones and slower ones (which was me in our group). During the practices, if it were not our members patience and encouragements, I would not have done this. And we should shout out to slower ones in idol groups, because they must put way more effort and time in their work to catch up the good ones for what is shown to public.
Before we blame for fights or breakups within a group, I think we have to think what is there behind the scene. It was a short video project for us, however they do it 24/7 for several years. Being there for each other as a team and having a good leader must guide to a successful group.
