A great learning experience

It is great to have a chance in creating a K-pop video. From making this cover video, I learned that being an idol is not as glamorous as it appears to the audiences and the amount of work required in K-pop videos is greater than I imagined.

At first, I thought our dance choreography was easy to learn because we are not covering the entire music video. However, after our first practice for more than two hours, our moves are far from being synchronized. Learning the dance turns out to be a time-consuming process because I think there are always areas to be improved on. This made me realize how idols devote days and weeks just to film for a five-minute music video. It is hard to imagine how the idols manage to practice for their performances for lengthy periods of time almost every day on top of their strict diet. We as audiences are only seeing the glamorous side of them and ignoring their dedicated work offstage. From watching dance tutorials, I also realized the amount of time that fan dancers put in to perfect those minor movements and promote K-pop to the world.

It was also a challenging and fun process to come up with different ideas for the scenes in the video other than dancing. We tried to film at various locations to create the mysterious atmosphere in the original video and make it enjoyable to watch. It was lots more hard work than we imagined and getting the right angles we wanted required us to film multiple times for every scene. However, I believe our end result was worth our efforts.

Working on this video has taught me to respect and appreciate K-pop in deeper ways. Through making this video, I realized how much time idols spend offstage to prepare for every performance, the great efforts of fans covering the videos, and also the lengthy process of filming a quality video.
